Biodigesters, in the right setting, can provided significant environmental benefits. This is the case for the proposed anaerobic biodigester at Lower Ailey Farm where the manure and crop waste, produced on the farm, will be processed to provide a fertilizer which will be spread back on the land reducing the need to import nitrogen and phosphates. In addition green energy will be produced as part of the operation, which will be sold to the grid. Francis Sant undertook a Flood Risk Assessment and a risk assessment for ground water contamination to ensure that the risk and consequence of flooding as well as the potential for pollution was acceptable.
